Mobile Notary Fee Calculator
Quick answer
A mobile notary fee calculator adds two numbers: the notarial fee your state allows and your travel fee. Texas caps an acknowledgment at $10 for the first signature and $1 for each extra one, Florida at $10 per act. Most states let you set travel freely if the client agrees in advance.

What goes into a mobile notary fee?
A mobile notary fee is the state's notarial fee plus a travel fee you set, plus any other service the signer agreed to. The notarial fee is the only part most statutes cap. Florida, for example, says the fee for one notarial act may not exceed $10.[2]
Texas caps the notarial act too and adds a rule that matters for mobile work: a notary may charge a fee only for the acts the statute lists, and travel is not one of them. That is why travel should sit on its own line, agreed with the signer before you set off.[3]
Worked example in Texas: two signatures on one acknowledgment is $10 plus $1, so $11 in notarial fees. Add 20 round-trip miles at the 2025 IRS business rate of 70 cents and the travel line is $14. The quote is $25, and only the $11 is set by law.[3][1]
Which states cap mobile notary travel fees?
A handful of states put a hard limit on travel. Maryland allows IRS business mileage plus a travel fee of no more than $5. North Carolina allows actual mileage at the federal business rate, only if the signer agrees in writing before you travel.[4][5]
Nevada caps travel by the hour, Arizona ties it to the state employee mileage rate, Connecticut to the IRS mileage rate, and Virginia limits you to your actual and reasonable travel expense.[6][7][8][9]
| State | Travel fee rule |
|---|---|
| Maryland | IRS business mileage plus a travel fee of no more than $5 |
| North Carolina | Actual mileage at the federal business rate, agreed in writing before travel |
| Nevada | $15 per hour from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., $30 per hour at night, agreed in advance |
| Arizona | Up to the mileage and per diem allowed for state employees |
| Connecticut | Up to the IRS business standard mileage rate per mile |
| Virginia | Actual and reasonable travel expense, with the signer's agreement |
States that allow travel fees only when agreed first
Many states have no dollar cap on travel but set conditions. Ohio allows a reasonable travel fee agreed with the signer before the notarial act. South Carolina allows one if you agree it before you travel and explain it is separate from the notarial fee and not set by law.[10][11]
Even where the law is silent, disclose first. Rhode Island requires every fee to be disclosed before the act, and Pennsylvania's Department of State treats travel as a clerical fee that must be disclosed in advance.[12][13]
All fees must be disclosed to any person utilizing the services of the notary public prior to performance of the notarial act.[12]
How do mobile notaries get paid?
Mobile notaries are paid per notarial act, plus a travel fee, usually by the signer at the appointment. Loan signing work is different: a title company or signing service usually pays a flat fee per loan package, and in states with a cap the part of that bill that covers notarial acts still has to fit within it.
Remote online notarization is priced separately in most states that allow it. Florida caps an online notarial act at $25, Texas lets online notaries charge up to $25 on top of the regular fee, and Ohio allows up to $30 plus a technology fee of up to $10.[14][15][10]
