About
Who runs this site, and how we check every number
Why this site exists
Mobile notaries answer the same questions every week. How much can I charge? Can I charge for travel? What goes in my journal? The answers are in each state's statute and on each Secretary of State's site, but they are scattered and written in legal language. Most pages that summarize them are selling a course, a bond or a membership.
This site puts the rules in one place, in plain English, with the source one click away. The tools are free, and so are notary listings.
How we check facts
- Every fee, term, bond amount and rule comes from an official source: the state statute, the state administrative code, or the Secretary of State or commissioning office.
- Each number links to the exact page we read, and we quote the line where it matters.
- If we cannot confirm a number from an official source, we leave it out and say so. We never copy numbers from course sellers or other blogs.
- We re-check the rules when states change their laws, and the "Updated" date on each page shows the last check.
How the site makes money
Right now it does not. Listings are free and will stay free. If we ever add paid features for notaries, the free listing stays, and we will never take a cut of your signings.
